QD proudly presents: Our principal Moxtek in space again!

After 485 million kilometers, the Perseverance rover is supposed to complete its journey to Mars on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021. Landing is expected at around 9 pm CET. To reach the surface of the Red Planet, it has to survive the harrowing final phase known as Entry, Descent, and Landing.

This rover includes seven instruments intended to seek evidence of past life on Mars. One of these instruments, the Planetary Instrument for X-ray Lithochemistry (PIXL), is a x-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer mounted at the end of the rover’s robotic arm and is designed to provide accurate identification of the elemental composition of rock and soil on Mars’ surface. The PIXL system uses three Moxtek components including a miniature x-ray tube because of its compact design, rigidity, and low-power consumption and two DuraBeryllium x-ray detector windows because of their exceptional dependability in harsh and remote environments.
