Janis Research now part of Lake Shore Cryotronics

In the middle of last year, our partner Lake Shore Cryotronics has taken over Janis Research. The merger has united two of the leading providers of cryogenic and material characterization solutions for low-temperature research. This means we now provide the full Janis portfolio in addition to that of Lake Shore
Cryotronics, and you can benefit from the combined expertise under one roof:

  • Cryostats
  • Micro-manipulated probe systems
  • Superconductive magnetic systems
  • Cryogenic cold traps
  • Pulse Tube Cryocoolers
  • Dewars

Cryostats from Janis

Janis offers two types of cryostats: open cryostats run with liquid nitrogen or helium and closed-cycle cryostats.
VPF cryostats are the most basic open-cycle cryostats in our portfolio. They are very budget friendly. VPF cryostats offer a variable-temperature sample environment without valves or the need for settings. When requirements change, they can easily be fitted, for example by integrating more feedthroughs, windows or different sample holders.
To measure samples with minor thermal conductivity, we offer VNF cryostats. VNF cryostats offer continuous temperature control for irregularly shaped objects, because they are cooled by a temperature-controlled nitrogen vapor stream which is independent of the sample holder configuration or thermal conductivity.

For variable temperatures, we offer temperature-controlled cryostats of the VariTemp series. They offer a sample environment with a column of static exchange gas. These systems provide outstanding temperature stability and can be used with liquid nitrogen or helium.

We also offer continuous flow cryostats – SuperTran and SuperTran-VP. Flow cryostats are ideal for applications like FTIR, ESR, NMR, UHV and Hall effect measurements. The two versions use different cooling techniques. Our SuperTran-VP cryostats use cold steam to cool the sample and cover a temperature range of 1.5 K to 300 K. The SuperTran version keeps the sample under vacuum and thus provides a temperature range of 1.5 K - 800 K.

Many of these cryostats can be fitted either ex-factory or later to work with a closed cooling cycle. This consists of a gas heat exchanger that allows cooling without liquid cryogens.
The Janis portfolio is completed by their closed systems: The 1.5 K Continuous Closed-Cycle Refrigerator cryostats reach the performance of liquid helium by using cryogen-free technology and a closed cycle. Cryocoolers with base temperatures from 4 K to 15 K are also available.
Please contact us to discuss your application. We look forward to assisting you in finding the most suitable system for your needs.
