Review of the 10th International Conference on Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (ICSE10) in Boulder, Colorado
In July 2025, the 10th International Conference on Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (ICSE10) took place in Boulder, Colorado. Over the past few years, this long-standing conference has established itself as a central forum for scientists and users who are involved in the diverse possibilities of ellipsometry.
I had the great pleasure of attending this conference together with our partner J.A. Woollam, immersing myself in a week full of scientific inspiration and valuable encounters.
The program was packed each day of the conference with an impressive mix of plenary lectures, technical presentations, poster sessions, and discussions. The topics ranged from fundamental methodological developments to the latest industrial applications – reflecting the growing importance of ellipsometry for research and technology. Particularly noteworthy was the open, collegial atmosphere, which made the professional exchange even more intense and worthwhile.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the hosts, Prof. Mathias Schubert and Prof. Eva Schubert, who ensured perfect organization with great commitment and warmth and gave the conference a distinctly personal character.
In addition to the technical impressions, the special setting also shaped the experience: Boulder itself, a lively university town at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, provided an inspiring backdrop. The impressive natural surroundings invite hiking and trail running – even if the dense conference program left little opportunity to take advantage of these possibilities. A trip to historic Georgetown also provided a charming contrast to the intensive scientific exchange.
Last but not least, it was a pleasure to spend time with colleagues from Woollam – always an enrichment, both professionally and personally.
Overall, ICSE10 was a successful mix of current research, inspiring exchanges, and unforgettable impressions. The conference once again demonstrated how dynamic and innovative the field of spectroscopic ellipsometry is. I do look forward to the next ICSE!
