Magnetotransport measurements in the MPMS3 with ETO option

Prof. Jeffrey Rinehart’s group from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UC San Diego have recently published their work on granular magnetoresistance. Using the ETO capabilities of the MPMS3 they can measure the resistance and magnetic moment of their samples using a single sample mounting. The group is working on samples showing granular magnetoresistance for spintronic applications to provide a high-precision and versatile sensor for spin states. They demonstrate the first instance of any form of spin valve behavior arising from a nanoparticle composite magnetoresistor. Single-layer films of varying CoFe2O4 to Fe3O4 nanoparticle ratios are used to show how the low-field sensitivity can be tuned to values exceeding those of either single-component material.
