Quantum Design acquires NanoScience division of Oxford Instruments

New perspectives for research and development through the merger of two innovation leaders in cryotechnology

Quantum Design has signed a binding agreement to acquire the NanoScience division of Oxford Instruments. The transaction is expected to close by the end of November 2025, subject to regulatory approvals. This move brings together two global leaders in cryogenic systems – a merger that is set to raise the bar in low-temperature research.
Oxford Instruments' NanoScience division is known for its ultra-low temperature cryogenic instruments, while Quantum Design is a leader in the development and manufacture of physical measurement systems. The combination of these complementary technologies will create a portfolio that will provide research institutions and industrial partners with even more powerful solutions in the future.
"I look forward to leading the Quantum Design and NanoScience businesses into a shared future where the comprehensive synergies of both companies will further push the boundaries of cryogenic measurement technology," said Stuart Schoenmann, CEO of Quantum Design USA. "NanoScience's long-established production facility in Tubney Woods not only expands our global manufacturing base, but also brings with it a rich history in the development of superconducting magnet technologies."
The merger opens up new opportunities for a wide range of scientific applications, from materials research and solid-state physics to quantum computing and next-generation storage technologies. With manufacturing and sales locations on three continents, Quantum Design is strengthening its position as a globally networked partner for the research community.
The common goal remains clear: more innovation, more scientific breakthroughs, and more discoveries.
