The Quantum Design OptiCool® family provides cryogen-free platforms for optical experiments at low temperatures. To meet the demand for more sample space, Quantum Design has introduced the OptiCool® Flex—the first OptiCool configuration with a 200 mm sample chamber. In this model, the superconducting magnet has been omitted to maximize the space available for experimental setups.
Like all systems in the OptiCool family, the OptiCool Flex covers a broad temperature range from 1.7 K to 350 K. It also features exceptionally low mechanical vibration of less than 10 nm peak-to-peak, which is particularly important for interferometric measurements and high-resolution optical techniques.
Another key feature is its extensive optical access. Up to eight optical ports—located on the sides and top, with optional access from below — allow a wide variety of optical geometries to be integrated for both transmission and reflection measurements.
The primary strength of the OptiCool Flex is its exceptional adaptability. Its modular Sample Pod concept allows complex experiments to be assembled outside the cryostat and then easily integrated into the system.
The combination of a large sample volume and open access makes the OptiCool Flex particularly well suited to experiments that extend beyond conventional single-sample measurements, including:

• Installation of multiple positioning systems for probing applications
• Measurement of full wafers rather than individual chips
• Integration of additional mechanical or electrical components
• The system is also optimized for installation on optical tables and can be seamlessly integrated with laser systems, spectrometers, and microscopes.
