Mini Film Maker Kit
From SpecacThe Specac Mini Film Maker Kit was developed specifically for producing thin films of polymer and plastic materials for infrared transmission analysis. The system enables quick and easy hot pressing of sample films at temperatures of up to 250 °C, producing films with a repeatable diameter of 15 mm diameter and thicknesses of 50, 100, 250 or 500 µm.
- Special tool with hydraulic press and integrated heated platens
- Fast and easy film production
- Temperatures from room temperature to 250 °C
- Standard sizing rings for 50, 100, 250 and 500 µm
- Portable
Further information
The Specac Mini Film Maker is designed to produce thin films of polymer and plastic materials for infrared transmission analysis. The system enables quick and easy hot pressing of samples at any temperature between room temperature and 250°C, to produce films with a repeatable diameter of 15 mm diameter and thicknesses of 50, 100, 250 or 500 µm. The Mini Film Maker Kit comprises an integral hydraulic press, digital temperature controller, heated platens and an extremely light-weight foil pressing tool. The special design of the system enables the platens to be pre-heated and held at the melting temperature required for the sample. The film pressing tool is separately prepared with a suitable sizing ring and a few milligrams of sample material, before being positioned between the heated platens. As soon as the tool has stabilised at the preset temperature, a lead screw is turned to generate a pressure of typically 0.5 t, which produces the film. After removing from the heated press, the tool rapidly returns to room temperature. The finished film can then be removed and used instantly for IR transmission analysis in Specacards (or a magnetic film holder).
This process shortens the duration of film production to less than five miutes.
The complete Mini Film Maker kit comprises a press with integrated heated platens and digital temperature controller, a film maker tool with 50, 100, 250 and 500 µm sizing rings, 200 aluminium foil discs, a cooling platen, 100 Specacards and stainless steel tweezers (forceps).
This accessories is used typically for producing thin films for quantitative IR analysis of plastics and polymers in quality control, and for development of methods for process analysis. Further applications are the investigation of tensile and tear strength.
