Quantum Design Takes Over Distribution of Semplor Desktop Scanning Electron Microscopes

Quantum Design is expanding its electron microscopy portfolio: The compact Semplor desktop electron microscopes combine high-resolution SEM imaging with material and elemental analysis capabilities. Distribution will initially begin in Germany and Switzerland.

Uniform Electron Optics and Equipment

All three Semplor SEM models feature an identical electron column and offer the same electron-optical performance characteristics: a resolution of less than 8 nm, magnifications from 100× to 200,000×, and variable vacuum. Secondary electron (SE), backscattered electron (BSE), and EDX detectors are included as standard.

NANOS and ONYX: Desktop SEMs for Different Sample Sizes

The models differ primarily in the size of their sample chambers and their sample handling capabilities. The NANOS is the compact desktop scanning electron microscope for examining individual samples.

With its 220 mm × 220 mm sample chamber, the ONYX offers the largest sample chamber currently available in the desktop SEM market. The motorized XY stage with a travel range of 110 mm × 110 mm enables the examination of larger components and multiple-sample setups. The ONYX can accommodate up to 16 one-inch or 64 half-inch sample holders.

NANOS EBSD for Correlative EDX and EBSD Analysis

The NANOS EBSD adds electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) to the shared SEM and EDX equipment. This allows EDX and EBSD analysis to be combined to investigate both the elemental composition and crystallographic properties of a sample in a correlative manner.
