Further information

WidePIX MPX3 Spectral Imaging/Scanner Cameras consist in tile/s of 1 or 2 lines x 5, 10 or 15 sensors array based on Si or CdTe (threshold of incident radiation of minimum 4 keV for Si or 5 keV for CdTe). The edgeless sensor technology allows placing all tiles tightly together from all sides. Thus, the whole imaging area of the camera is fully sensitive to the radiation, as there are no gaps between the tiles in the image. Each pixel has two integrated 12-bit digital counters and two energy discrimination thresholds. The counters store number of registered particles (e.g., X-rays with energy above the selected threshold). WidePIX MPX3 cameras allow acquiring X-ray spectral images with very high contrast and wide dynamic range. Therefore, even low contrast structures such as plastic or soft tissue are easily detectable in X-ray images.

Single pixel counting mode:

This mode can use one or two of the integrated 12-bit counters. Every pixel works independently of its neighbors and one or two energy threshold/s is/are available, recording number of events per pixel.

Charge summing mode:

This mode provides hardware-based correction of signal cross-talk between pixels. That further and considerably improves the detector spectral response, which influence the quality of spectra measured by individual pixels.

Technology:

ADVACAM technology is based on direct single photon counting conversion, that represent the cutting edge of current radiation imaging technology. The term “single photon counting” means that every single photon of X-ray radiation, detected in individual pixel, is processed and counted. This technology brings advantages of higher contrast together with sharpness and spectral resolution, that allows material specific information to be displayed in colors.

The photon counting principle of detection eliminates all other sources of noise that are present in CCD or flat panel cameras. This leads to considerably better signal-to-noise ratio, thus detectability of more details in images.
