Ultra-high-speed X-ray photon-counting cameras

TimePIX3 from ADVACAM

TimePIX3 series determines position, energy and time stamp simultaneously of an incident radiation of minimum 3 keV. Compared to the TimePIX series, the TimePIX3 detectors offer imaging with 6x better time resolution, 2x better energy resolution, 2x lower minimum energy threshold, zero dead time, and 10x faster data transfer. Two single-chip X-ray camera models are available.

Features
  • Ultra-high readout speed
  • Extremely fast time resolution
  • Determine position, energy and time stamp simultaneously
  • Solid direct detection based on patented CERN technology
  • Easily integrable with existent instruments or on beamlines

Further information

MiniPIX TPX3 Miniaturized Spectral Imaging Camera: consisting in a single TimePIX3 device with Si or CdTe sensor interfaced by standard µUSB connection MiniPIX TPX3 makes spectral X-ray imaging easy as it records spectrum of measured X-ray in each pixel with a readout speed of 2.35 Million hits/s. Thanks to the possibility to measure energy, position and time, the device is capable of digitally registering shapes tracks of ionizing particles in an “online” continuous way. By those simultaneous capabilities, it can find applications in combined angular and energy dispersive like XRD, SAXS or WAXS without the use of monochromators, as well as X-ray fluorescence imaging (XRF), X-ray radiography in low flux, gamma camera or Compton-camera applications.

AdvaPIX TPX3 Fast Spectral Imaging Camera: consisting in a single TimePIX3 device with Si or CdTe sensor interfaced by a USB 3.0 connection. AdvaPIX TPX3 is the world’s first radiation imaging detector that operates in list mode: this means every single hit of radiation is recorded into a continuous stream of data. Each pixel records a spectrum of incoming events with a readout speed of 40 Million hits/s. In addition, the measured time stamp gives the possibility to check for coincident events or charge sharing between pixels. The camera can be used in a huge variety of applications, such as energy resolved radiography (X-rays, neutrons, ions), particle tracking, time-of-flight imaging, Compton-Camera and many others.

Technology:

ADVACAM technology is based on direct single photon counting conversion, that represent the cutting edge of current radiation imaging technology. The term “single photon counting” means that every single photon of X-ray radiation, detected in individual pixel, is processed and counted. This technology brings advantages of higher contrast together with sharpness and spectral resolution, that allows material specific information to be displayed in colors.

The photon counting principle of detection eliminates all other sources of noise that are present in CCD or flat panel cameras. This leads to considerably better signal-to-noise ratio, thus detectability of more details in images.
